CAT ADOPTION POLICIES
Our priority is to place our cats in loving homes by matching them to the personalities of their new owners. In order to assure proper placement, all potential parents are interviewed and undergo an adoption process (application, vet reference, adoption fee, home visit and signed contract) prior to placement.
When you adopt from O’Malley you know you will be inviting into your family a healthy, well-socialized new member who has been loved and cared for by a volunteer foster family who is familiar with the cat’s personalities, quirks, and special needs. Many of our cats have been fostered with dogs, cats and children.
Our adoption fee is only $45 (other donations are happily accepted)!
All of our cats have received the following medical care, which averages $125 per cat:
- Vaccinations appropriate for the age of the cat, including feline leukemia and rabies with certificate.
- Unless otherwise noted, all of our cats have tested Negative for Feline Leukemia & FIV (feline aids).
- All cats are checked for worms, fleas, ear mites and treated as necessary. Flea protection (such as Advantage, Frontline, or Revolution) is applied. None of our cats wear flea collars or are treated with any store bought flea chemical as these chemicals can be hazardous and can even kill!
- All adult cats in our care have already been spayed or neutered.
PROCEDURES FOR ADOPTION
Note: If you adopt a kitten we will verify altering by your vet.
Complete and return the application to the Lufkin O’Malley Alley Cat Organization (TOMACO) either by email or mail to
The Lufkin O'Malley Alley Cat Organization 911 Ellis Ave
Lufkin, TX 75904
- Veterinarian references will be checked.
- Landlords will be contacted if home is a rental property.
- A home visit is required of all adoptive families.
- Follow up contacts will take place after the cat is adopted.
- Follow ups may include emails, home visit, and/or visits while you and your adopted cat are at the veterinarian.
- This will allow the adoptive family time to visit with the foster and to talk about any questions they may have during the adjustment period.
- And, of course, we LOVE to take pictures of the kitty with his/her new family and to hear stories about our kits to post them to our web page with your permission!
ADOPTION AGREEMENT
- We want to make sure that you and your new rescue kitty have a long, happy and healthy life together. Please read through our adoption agreement. By signing our contract, you agree to the following:
- All cats are adopted as indoor pets only, unless otherwise agreed.
- All cats must be transported in a pet carrier, not in ones’ arms.
- TOMACO recommends that you DO NOT de-claw your cat.
- The adoptive family agrees to have the adopted kitten spayed or neutered by 6 months of age, if the cat is not already altered.
- The adoptive family agrees to provide the adopted cat with all required and vet recommended vaccines annually.
- The adoptive family agrees not to crate the adopted cat for lengthy periods of time.
- The adoptive family agrees not to abuse or neglect the adopted cat and authorizes TOMACO’s agent(s) to investigate if care of the cat is in question.
- If for any reason the adoptive family cannot keep the adopted cat, the adoptive family agrees to notify TOMACO and to return the cat to TOMACO.
- The adoption fee will NOT be reimbursed.
- The adoptive family understands that any failure to perform the foregoing agreement will constitute a breach of contract.
- In the event of any such breach of contract, TOMACO can reclaim the adopted pet.
CAT ADOPTION POLICIES
- The adoptive family understands that the pet covered by these adoption papers, is to the best of TOMACO’s knowledge, in good health and that TOMACO is not responsible for any medical fees incurred after the adoption date.
- However, if a health problem develops, the adoptive family should notify TOMACO to discuss the matter.
- The adoptive family agrees to give TOMACO visitation rights to ensure that the terms of this adoption agreement are being followed.
- We search for the best possible family to match our cats.
- We reserve the right to refuse an adoption for any reason.
At any time, for the life of the animal, if you find you can no longer properly care for your O’Malley Alley cat, the cat must be returned to us.
Under NO circumstances shall the cat go to any shelter, be abandoned, or placed in another home.
The adoption fee will not be refunded.
